I think there were smiles from the beginning to the end of their photo session at the Heather Thomas Photography studio in Newtown, PA. I opened the door at the studio to welcome this adorable family of four and the boys looked up at me anxiously as if they had been bribed to behave for their session.
The 2-3 age range is an interesting one. Typically, kids in this age tend to sit for a few minutes in the very beginning of their photo session, then they would prefer to move around freely and show me their skills. That’s no problem for me since that is my favorite time to document these little ones. My motto is always “let boys be boys”.
First, we started inside the studio by the beautiful windows to capture the natural light that seeps through the windows this time of day. The boys anxiously looked at me like “what’s next?”
Soon after, we went to one of my favorite spots at the studio for family photos — the entry way. This is a tight space that keep everyone super close together — perfect! The blues, grays and whites are a perfect complementary color for many photo session clothing choices.
A smile, a laugh and a tickle please…
Now, let’s capture the true personalities of these little ones. Over to my favorite path outside the studio. The stone walkway leads to some interesting captures and interactive spots to engage the brothers.
Who knew throwing pine cones would be so much fun!
Going over the top with props is not my thing; I prefer simple and basic items that I use only to help engage during the photo shoot. I prefer to use nature whenever possible. This radio flyer tricycle is one of my favorites for boys this age.
To the back of the Heather Thomas Photography studio we go to use the stone walls and work more with the family to photograph them as if I weren’t there.
Let’s comb mom’s hair with a stick…..let boys be boys!
To the side of the studio for other secret spot. Sticks, dirt and bare-feet — what more could you ask for?
After our nature walk around the property, we’ll end back in the front of the studio for more candids. The swing is always a big one!
