Fall Family Photo Shoot in Lower Bucks County, PA | The M Family

At the end of a few long, hot summer months, the fall comes as a welcome, cool guest – the more photos we can capture during this time of the year, the better. This photo shoot took place in October when autumn was in full force. The family pictured is young and full of energy. Mom is an old friend from college and a regular client, which has created a familiarity that comes through in the natural poses of the photo shoot. There’s something really special about having photography from each phase in your family’s constantly changing life, and when the pictures are all with the same photographer there is an added flow and cohesion to your albums.

Personality, Please!

We wanted to emphasize the youthful, fun-loving spirit of this family by showing as much snuggling as possible and letting the boys do whatever felt most comfortable for them. With younger kids, don’t be afraid to let them run around and explore the area for a bit to get themselves comfortable and excited. As you can see in these photos, we went for a relaxed, cozy atmosphere and let the kids be themselves.

In every single one of these pictures, you can visibly see how much these brothers love each other. When the older brother voluntarily kissed his baby brother on the cheek, I knew my work was cut out for me. You can tell how protective and caring Big Brother is, and how excited Mom and Dad are to start this little family. And can we just talk about their adorable fall outfits? When we think of fall, we usually think of reds, yellows, and oranges, but this blue color coordination really worked to cool off the photos and highlight the lighter tones in some of their hair colors. I think the balance turned out perfectly.

Backdrop Location

We did this photo shoot in Bucks County, which is a stunning park about 20 minutes outside of Philadelphia. The backdrop had a simplistic beauty that helped the family stand out, and the later daylight added a glowing iridescence to the set. Time of day has a lot to do with the look of your photos, so feel free to reach out with ideas/suggestions for your session!

Toddler-Hood 😉

With toddlers, it can be nearly impossible to keep everyone staying still, let alone looking at the camera at the same time. So, we decided not to force anything – we let the boys move as they wished, climbing on parents’ backs, jumping and swinging. I think all of this mobility painted a much more accurate, and therefore more meaningful, depiction of this family’s personality. Family-friendly poses are so important to keep the kiddos engaged and to make the photo shoot fun instead of miserable. So many impromptu snuggles! I couldn’t get enough of this family’s obvious care for each other, and I look forward to the next time we get together for a photo shoot.
