Using ice cream as a bribe for good behavior? Not recommended. But not totally unheard of, either.
Let’s face it … ice cream is more than an indulgence just for kids. We grownups love it, too – and fortunately, Newtown is bursting with great choices for a post-session treat. These five options, all conveniently located near Heather Thomas Photography Studio each have something special to offer you and yours! 1) Nina’s Waffles— Waffles or ice cream? Given the choice, which would you and your family pick? Good news: You don’t have to choose. Nina’s Waffles, the newest addition to Newton’s dessert lineup, has paired its originally recipe hand-cooked Liege style waffles with its proprietary gourmet ice cream, pasteurized right here in Bucks County. From chocolate-dipped waffle pops to waffles topped with bacon-flavored ice cream, Nina’s offers unique treats that will dazzle your taste buds.

The Goodnoe family has owned and operated its dairy farm since 1918. The Dairy Bar is a Newtown landmark, and one you won’t want to miss for unbelievable homemade, hand-dipped ice cream cones, sundaes, malt shakes and even old-fashioned ice cream sodas.

3) Owowcow Creamery— With ice cream described as “passionately made and warmly shared,” you know it has to be good. But, in case you had any doubt … Owowcow was named among the top 27 Ice Cream Shops in the World (yes, world!) by Buzzfeed; one of the 10 Reasons to Drive to Bucks County by ZAGAT, the Best Ice Cream Shop in New Jersey by NJ.com and well, you get the point. Of course, there’s always vanilla, but why not try Owowcow’s rosewater cardamom, lemon ginger, chocolate salted caramel pecan … or another rotating flavor of the week. (Is your mouth watering yet?) Delicious ice cream aside, there’s also a train that can take you and your family around the vintage carousel, so the kids can see the animals and, on some days, even feed them. Ride the carousel, enjoy a picnic lunch and then top it off with an unforgettable ice cream dessert in the covered pavilion.

4) Zebra Striped Whale – As you stroll down the strip, you might hear the Zebra Striped Whale calling your name. Its adorable décor and family-friendly vibe set the stage for delicious ice cream treats—and coffee. Like Goodnoe’s, the Zebra Striped Whale is just a three-minute or ten-minute walk from the Studio. Premium ice cream, homemade waffle cones and toppings galore make for unrivaled sundae treats for the kids. The “big kids” will love the locally roasted coffee drinks, served up with a delicious order of homemade crepes … so many choices, you’ll have to visit again and again—and again!

Sworl— What happens when you put a new twist on an old favorite? Ice cream bliss. Sworl features handcrafted rolled ice cream made with fresh ingredients from local farms. While the kids will go googly-eyed over the Cookie Monster creation (ice cream base with Oreo cookies; what’s not to love about that?!), the grown-ups will delight in more sophisticated offerings, like the Matcha Galore or perhaps the Red Carpet Rose. Sworl opened its doors in 2018, and has been the talk of the town ever since.
