Senior Portraits in Philadelphia | Heather Thomas Photography
Being a senior in high school means a lot of freedom is on its way, and it can be a bittersweet series of “lasts” – which means an important time for pictures. This particular senior photo shoot was done just outside of Philadelphia in the middle of August when the end of summer was right on the horizon.
Ms. Herrmann(see our first portrait session here) is so photogenic, and the scenery was peaceful. Flowers are never a bad idea for a cute prop or backdrop option, and you can’t lose with the natural textures of a field. Not to mention the beautiful green glow those skyscraper trees add in the background!
We really wanted this photoshoot to embody the balance of excitement and playfulness of graduating and leaving high school behind with the beginnings of maturity and wisdom that will continue to perpetuate in the years to come. Mixing the standard smiling shots with the more serious, introspective looks gave us a realistic snapshot of this client’s life stage as she works toward her goals. I worked with this client in her early years of high school during her family’s photoshoot, and this series added another visual chapter that the family can save.
Photoshoots can feel rigid at first, and clients can feel nervous or unsure of what to do with their hands while they stand there smiling. But when we can find the right outfit where they feel confident and comfortable, that’s when the magic starts to happen. One of my favorite aspects of senior year photo shoots is seeing the young adult’s personality come through in the outfits they choose. This client picked a classy but fun black sundress that looked formal enough for the headshot pose and yet comfortable enough to dance in a field of flowers. And that hat! Might not have needed it for actual sun protection but it was crucial to complete the look.
Best of luck to this senior!
