Every year, dozens of families choose to come back to me for another session. Not because they need more photos—but because they don’t want another year of their children’s lives to disappear without preserving it.
One day you’ll realize you no longer have a child who reaches for your hand. They’ll be taller than you, busier than you, and those little expressions you see every day will have quietly changed. That’s why so many families come back year after year—not because they need another photo, but because they never want to forget who their family was in this season.
Fifteen years. Seventeen sessions. One incredible story.

From our very first session in 2011 to her graduation portraits in 2026, it has been the greatest privilege to watch Keira grow through my lens.
Why Trust Matters in Family Photography
It’s amazing how quickly childhood passes. This short video shares highlights from Keira’s 17 sessions and reminds us why preserving these moments matter.
Watch 15 years of their family photography tradition memories come to life.
Is It Worth Hiring the Same Family Photographer Again?
When people ask me what my favorite part of being a Philadelphia family photographer is, they often expect me to say the beautiful locations, the gorgeous light, or creating timeless portraits.
The truth is, it’s something much deeper. It’s watching families grow.
Some of the greatest blessings of my life have come from being invited back into my clients’ lives year after year for their annual family photos. I’ve watched tiny newborns become curious toddlers, toddlers become confident children, and children grow into remarkable young adults. It’s a privilege I never take for granted.
One family, in particular, reminds me exactly why I love what I do. I first photographed Keira in 2011. Since then, I’ve had the incredible honor of photographing her family in the Philadelphia area 17 times. Seventeen sessions. Seventeen chapters of a childhood. Together we’ve celebrated holidays, chased the golden light through every season, twirled in beautiful dresses, and explored some of my favorite places throughout the Philadelphia area. We’ve created memories at historic Elfreth’s Alley, wandered through colorful tulip fields, explored Pennsylvania state parks (and embraced many summer storms), strolled through the breathtaking gardens at Tyler Gardens, laughed together inside my Newtown studio, and jumped waves on the east coast of the New Jersey Shore.
Looking back through those photographs is like watching childhood unfold one beautiful chapter at a time. This year, I photographed Keira’s senior portraits at Abington Friends School, just outside Philadelphia. The little girl I met all those years ago was now preparing for her next adventure. Those weren’t simply photographs. They were her childhood. Every missing tooth. Every birthday. Every season. Every milestone. Every version of who she was becoming. That is the true gift of family photography.
As a family photographer in Philadelphia, I don’t believe family portraits are simply about creating beautiful images for your walls. They are about preserving the moments that disappear before we even realize they’re gone. One day your toddler will stop reaching for your hand. One day your child will be taller than you. One day you’ll wonder how graduation arrived so quickly.
Photographs become the bridge back to those moments. That is why I encourage families to make annual portraits a tradition. Each session tells a small part of your family’s story, but together they become something extraordinary—a legacy your children and grandchildren will treasure for generations. To every family who has trusted me over the years, thank you. Whether I’ve photographed your newborn, captured your growing family every fall, celebrated birthdays, or documented milestone after milestone, please know that your trust means more than words can express.
Many of you have returned to me year after year, allowing me to watch your children grow before my camera. That kind of relationship is incredibly rare, and it is one of the greatest gifts this career has given me. You are so much more than clients. You have become part of the Heather Thomas Photography family, and I am endlessly grateful for every hug, every laugh, every conversation, and every memory we’ve created together.
If you’re searching for a Philadelphia family photographer, a Bucks County family photographer, or a Newtown family photographer who will be there to document not just one season of your life, but your family’s entire story, I would be honored to walk that journey with you.
Because one day, your child or grandchild will open an album just like Keira did and you’ll realize you weren’t simply collecting photographs. You were preserving a lifetime.
The little girl I met in 2011, looking back through the story we’ve documented together over 17 sessions. This is why I believe photographs are one of the greatest gifts we can leave our children.

One day these photographs won’t simply remind you what your children looked like.
They’ll remind you what it felt like to hold their tiny hands, hear their laughter, and be in the middle of this beautiful season of life.
That’s why so many families come back year after year—not because they need more pictures, but because every year tells another chapter of their story.

Five years from now, you’ll never wish you had taken fewer photographs of the people you love. If you’re ready to begin—or continue—your family’s story, I’d be honored to tell it.
