One thing I love about family photography? There are really no limits as to what the word family means. In this unique session, family is two best friends who have known each other since the 6th grade. These ladies brought together their spouses and children to get these lovely family pictures in Ocean City NJ.
FAMILY PICTURES TIMES TWO
One of the women is a long-time client of mine who has been doing family photo sessions since her youngest was two-years-old. These two families were on a first-time vacation to the Jersey Shore from their homes in the Philadelphia area. It was the perfect opportunity to capture the special bond this group shares.
We did a few poses to include the whole group on the sandy path leading to the beach and on the beach itself. The two families even did a nice job coordinating their outfits. And that is definitely a challenge with four adults and three kids! The blue and pink tones they chose really embodied the range of personalities of the group. And the bright pops of color truly represent the fun spirit of the whole experience.
After the full group photos, we switched over to capturing each individual family and then on to some shots of just the kids. It was truly nonstop fun for this session. The youngest boy had the time of his life running up and down the beach, and all this play allowed for some adorable images that really highlight the best parts of being “three.” The older kids had a great time chasing him and even getting a little silly, too.
BEACH LOCATION FOR A LIVELY SHOOT
Getting their family pictures in Ocean City NJ allowed them to really radiate the “laidback yet lively” vacation vibe. The weather was perfect. A beautiful blue sky layered with the fluffiest of clouds created dreamy lighting. The salty wind added a carefree flavor, and the sound of seagulls in the distance provided the perfect soundtrack.
The beach location gave us nearly unlimited options for poses and “non-poses.” We also made use of nice props like the overturned Ocean City NJ boat and the aquamarine-colored lifeguard station. And of course, the sandy shore always turns out to be a wonderful playground while the dunes offer a fabulous natural backdrop. With all of these options at our fingertips, it was almost like we had four photo shoots in one!
THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX FOR FAMILY PHOTOS
I love that these two families were able to capture their special connection in these photographic treasures that will last forever. Having their family pictures taken in Ocean City NJ will be an adventure they will remember for a lifetime. I hope they continue on with their tradition of extending the definition of family far beyond the normal standard.
